Kiso Sansen Park Flower Park Konan
📍 Address: Isshiki, Oiri-cho, Konan City, Aichi Prefecture 483-8008, Japan
‘Flower Park Konan’, located in Konan City, Aichi Prefecture, officially known as ‘Konan Kaki Engei Koen’ (Konan Horticultural Park), opened in 2007 (Heisei 19) as one of the largest national Kiso Sansen Parks in Japan. Utilizing the rich nature along the Kiso River and the characteristics of the waterside region, this vast 22.9-hectare park, meticulously maintained with seasonal flowers and greenery, is a representative tourist attraction of Konan City.
A landmark within the park is the futuristic glass-enclosed building, ‘Crystal Flower’. It features rest areas and seminar rooms, making it a convenient stop for a break during your stroll. Further inside, you’ll discover the ‘Sky Garden’ (Reflection Pond). This spot, reflecting the sky and surrounding trees like a water mirror, is a well-known secret photo spot.
Additionally, around the water basin in the center of the park, a mesmerizing mist performance occurs every 30 minutes. Especially on calm, windless days, seasonal flowers like tulips enveloped in mist create a picturesque scene straight out of a painting. Beyond just walking, the subtle beauty of such meticulous landscape design is a profound charm of this park.
Seasonal Scenery and Best Visiting Times
Flower Park Konan’s greatest appeal lies in the ability to experience the changing seasons no matter when you visit. From blue nemophila and cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangeas and tropical water lilies in the water basin in early summer, sunflowers in summer, cosmos and swaying pampas grass in autumn, to sweet-scented Wintersweet and ice tulips in winter, there’s always something to see throughout the year.
Especially popular are the Golden Week period and autumn event seasons, where beautifully decorated Halloween displays attract not only tourists but also local photography enthusiasts. If you want to avoid crowds and slowly enjoy the fragrance of the flowers, the best time to visit is on weekdays during the day, or right when the parking lot opens at 8:30 AM. You can enjoy a sense of spaciousness as if you have the vast 25,000-square-meter lawn area all to yourself.
Dog-Friendly Amenities and Practical Tips for Dog Owners
Flower Park Konan is an extremely welcoming spot for those traveling with their beloved dogs. The park clearly distinguishes ‘dog-friendly areas’ and ‘dog-restricted areas’ with signs, and water taps for dogs are readily available throughout. Visitors uncomfortable with dogs can also relax in the restricted areas, making it an excellent design that allows both groups to enjoy nature without stress.
However, mealtime requires a little consideration. While there’s a restaurant in the park where dogs are allowed on the terrace, the ordering and payment system is ‘in-store only’. This creates a hurdle for solo travelers with a dog, as they would have to leave their dog outside while entering the store, making it physically difficult to use.
For solo travelers with a dog, we highly recommend bringing your own packed lunch or takeout food and enjoying a picnic in the dog-friendly lawn areas. Thanks to the free large parking lot (with 559 spaces), accessing your car even with a lot of luggage is easy. With numerous benches and shaded spots, you’re sure to have a wonderful, refreshing time soaking in the relaxed local atmosphere.
